Augsburg goalkeeper billed for damages to pitch

Marwin Hitz has been billed by Cologne for causing damage to a penalty spot last Saturday.

Home side Cologne were awarded a spot-kick after Philipp Hosiner was brought down in the box.

Before Anthony Modeste took the penalty, Augsburg goalkeeper Hitz dug and twisted his boot in the turf, trying to scruff up the area around the penalty spot.

The Swiss keeper’s tactics worked as Modeste slipped and had his effort saved by Hitz.

Augsburg ended up winning the Bundesliga match 1-0.

Cologne reportedly sent an invoice for 122.92 euros ($190) to Hitz, asking him to pay for new turf and two hours of skilled labour.

But that should be a small price to pay for a victory.
