Cambodia kick off campaign with 3-1 win over Philippines
Cambodia kicked off their 2015 South-east Asia (SEA) Games football campaign in fine fashion on Wednesday (June 3) with a 3-1 win over the Philippines in Group A.
Prak Mony Udom opened the scoring for Cambodia at the Jalan Besar Stadium on the half-hour mark, before Keo Sokpheng added a second from close range three minutes before half-time.
The Azkals gave themselves a glimmer of hope in the 53rd minute when Paolo Salenga converted Kennedy Uzoka’s cross from inside the six-yard box.
But with nine minutes remaining, Cambodia wrapped up the three points after Chan Vathanaka capitalised on a defensive error to finish past Jun Badelic.
The win was enough to see Cambodia pull level with Myanmar and hosts Singapore on three points at the top of the group.
The Philippines now face a near-impossible task to qualify for the semi-finals.
In Group B, Timor Leste recorded their first win of the tournament by beating bottom side Brunei 2-1 at the Bishan Stadium.
