Cameroonian footballer's delight turns to despair, no thanks to a prank
Every footballer dreams of playing at the World Cup.
So imagine how one Cameroonian player would have felt when he learnt that his so-called call-up to his national team was nothing more than a cruel prank.
His hopes went up in smoke.
The story first surfaced on Twitter through Croatian football writer Aleksandar Holiga who, across the space of six tweets, told Belle's journey from the high of receiving his call up to the depths of utter despair.
According to Holiga, Belle, who plays for Croatian side RNK Split, received the good news of his supposed call-up through his club and celebrated all night.
But when he arrived at Cameroon's training base in Austria, the winger was shocked as he was turned away.
The reason: Nobody knew him.
No one can ascertain if it was indeed a prank, but what's certain is that the call-up was a fake - and that Belle is probably feeling really, really miserable.
Henri Belle, wherever you are, our hearts go out to you.
