Manager sacked for TV appearance

Brendan Rodgers wasn’t the only manager sacked on Sunday, Oct 4 .

FC Ilves’ English manager Keith Armstrong was also given the boot but not because of poor results.

He was sacked for appearing on the Finnish television channel MTV Sport.

Not that punditry in itself is an instant reason for dismissal. But at the time, he was supposed to be taking charge of his team as they played an important Finnish league match against SJK.

Armstrong has done an impressive job at Ilves this season but the club were not impressed by his performance on Sunday, which apparently came as a “complete surprise” to their CEO.

On Oct 5, the club thanked him for his “excellent work” and announced that he was being sacked.

“A common path is no longer found in the future,” the club said in a statement on their website.

Ilves have appointed Marco Baruffato as caretaker manager for their next three fixtures and stated their intention to finish the campaign in sixth place.

Some on Twitter have used the opportunity.
