Portugal sack Bento
The Portugal Football Federation has sacked national coach Paulo Bento.
The former midfielder paid the price for Portugal's poor World Cup campaign as they failed to progress to the knockout phase as well as for an embarrassing defeat 1-0 defeat to minnows Albania on Sunday in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier.
Despite extending Bento's contract till 2016 last April, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced that it had terminated his contract on Thursday.
Bento, 45, took over the job from former Real Madrid boss Carlos Quieroz in 2010.
The FPF have yet to make an announcement on a replacement.
