Rio signs for QPR
Rio Ferdinand has finally signed for newly-promoted Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer.
The classy central defender, who was serving as a World Cup pundit for the BBC in Brazil, put pen to paper on a one-year contract and will be reunited with former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp.
Ferdinand said: "I had a lot of offers from all over the world but the draw for me was to play in the Premier League.
"It's not about money - I had loads of more lucrative offers available to me.
"I still feel I've got something to offer and I'm excited about helping this club cement its place in the Premier League."
The 35-year-old was released by Manchester United after enjoying a trophy-laden 12-year spell at Old Trafford, winning six EPL titles, two League Cups, one Champions League and one Fifa Club World Cup.
Ferdinand was handed his EPL debut by Redknapp at the age of 17, coming on for Tony Cottee during West Ham's last game of the season against Sheffield Wednesday in 1996.
He was sold to Leeds United in November 2000 for a then-record £18 million ($382m) before he was signed by United in July 2002 for £30m.
