Schweinsteiger signs for Manchester United: Reports

Reports in Germany state that German giants Bayern Munich have accepted a bid from Manchester United for midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

German news outlet Bild reported that the 30-year-old midfielder has informed his German bosses that he wants a new challenge.

The chance to link up with old boss Louis van Gaal was also a factor in attracting the World Cup winner to England, according to Bild

Van Gaal and Schweinsteiger had worked together when the former coached Bayern Munich from 2009 to 2011.

Schweinsteiger, who has spent his entire career at the Bavarian giants, has reportedly been offered a three-year-contract worth £140,000 (S$ 293,000) a week, and will reportedly cost Manchester United £15 million.

Last season, Schweinsteiger fell down the pecking order, playing only 20 games in the Bundesliga.

Earlier this week, the Guardian reported that Bayern's coach Pep Guardiola said that Schweinsteiger has to decide whether or not he wants to stay at the club.

“If Schweinsteiger wants to stay here then that’s perfect. He’s a top player....Basti next season. Basti has to decide" - Pep Guardiola
