Shelvey’s long-shot piles on Villa woe

A wonder goal from Jonjo Shelvey fired Swansea on their way to a comfortable win over Aston Villa that all but secures their Premier League place for next season. The midfielder lobbed Brad Guzan with a stunning 45-yard volley that sent the Liberty Stadium crowd into delirium.

Wilfried Bony had opened the scoring before Gabriel Agbonlahor levelled for the visitors. But Swansea dominated the second half and were rewarded when Pablo Hernandez made it 3-1 and Bony added to his tally with an injury-time penalty.

If Norwich fail to beat Manchester United, Swansea are safe barring miracles from Cardiff or Sunderland. Villa, meanwhile, are now without a win in six matches and only four points above the relegation zone with a tough run in.
