WATCH: Rooney, RVP and di Maria star in anime ad for...Nissin?!
Yes folks, you're reading the headline right.
Manchester United and instant noodle maker Nissin have joined forces to bring the world Angel di Maria, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in Japanese anime form.
Anime versions of Angel di Maria, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Screengrabs from manutd.com.
Renowned animator Kazuto Nakazawa, whose work was featured in Kill Bill Volume 1, was responsible for crafting the 30-second spot featuring the tagline Hungry To Win.
It starts off with di Maria making a grand entrance - kind of like his British transfer record arrival at Old Trafford from Real Madrid in real life.
Then, like in real life, he proceeds to dribble skilfully through a horde of faceless adversaries with some considerable ease.
He then whips a a cross to Rooney, who heads the ball on...
...with an obligatory dramatic anime power up scene. It can't be an anime without it.
Van Persie then emerges from the shadows and makes a spectacular left-footed volley that is so powerful, the ball starts to emit electricity.
The super shot leaves the goalkeeper no chance as he is blasted into the back of the net trying to stop the ball.
The ending is where it gets bizarre. As the players celebrate the wonder goal, the camera zooms out to reveal...
...that the stadium they were playing in was a...cup of Nissin instant noodles?! Talk about trippy.
Anyway, if you're keen on watching the whole video, head over to United's website over here.
Now if only Louis van Gaal had the power to animate his players to score more goals like that...
