History can repeat itself

Back in 1993, hosts Singapore won nine medals in sailing - five gold, one silver and three bronze.

Sailing has traditionally been one of the Republic's strongest events.

At the Asian Games in 2006, the country came out on top with a haul of 10 medals, five of them gold.

At last year's SEA Games, Singapore also finished at the top of the sailing leaderboard, with a total of 12 medals - five gold.

With the likes of Colin Cheng (left) in the mix, history can repeat itself when the 28th SEA Games come to town in June, 2015.

In 2006, a 17-year-old Cheng became Singapore's first world champion in sailing at the Laser 4.7 World Championships - described as the world's most competitive youth sailing event - in France.

He was the top Asian finisher in the Laser at the 2012 London Olympics where he finished 15th.

With Singapore targeting one gold in windsurfing, as well, the sailors could well rule the waves next year.
