Singapore Sevens rugby on TV

After 10 years, the HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens returns to Singapore on April 16 and 17 in the spanking National Stadium at the Sports Hub.

The Republic will be the eighth stop of the 10-leg series and, in a deal announced yesterday, StarHub was unveiled as the official broadcaster of the event.

As part of a four-year partnership between StarHub and Rugby Singapore, fans can catch next month's action "live" for free on the SuperSports Arena Channel.

"This is the first time that the World Rugby Sevens will be played at the Singapore Sports Hub and we are excited to bring it to the growing number of fans here," said StarHub's chief marketing officer, Howie Lau. "As a committed partner of Rugby Singapore, it is our mission to make the game more accessible to all Singaporeans."

StarHub will also be teaming up with FOX Sports to bring in sevens rugby legend Waisale Serevi to conduct a clinic for youngsters next month.

Regarded as the greatest Sevens player in history, Fiji's Serevi is a World Rugby Hall of Fame inductee and a two-time Rugby World Cup Sevens winner. He also coached Fiji to victory at the 2005-06 World Sevens Series.

"Special players like Waisale Serevi do not come around often and we are certain that his wealth of experience will inspire the next generation of Singapore rugby players to reach greater heights," said Lau.

"We are glad to be able to bring to the community an event that aims to inspire both rugby fans and non-fans alike. Rugby has great values to impart and we, at FOX Sports, are delighted to have Serevi to work with us to spread these values," said Fion Yeo, general manager of FOX Networks Group Singapore.

  • Fans can watch the HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens on SuperSports Arena (StarHub TV Channel 112/205) and non-StarHub TV customers can catch the latest action by tuning their TV to 76.25MHz. StarHub customers will enjoy a 15 per cent discount when they purchase tickets to the series.
