Rooney hints at longer stay

Wayne Rooney has hinted at a positive outcome of his contract talks with Manchester United by declaring his aim of beating Sir Bobby Charlton's club scoring record.

Rooney, whose deal expires at the end of next season, is 41 adrift of Charlton's overall 249-goal tally for the Red Devils. Realistically, that requires the 28-year-old to stay till the 2015-16 season at least.

"It is a great aim for myself to try and get Sir Bobby's record, both at club and international level," Rooney told BBC's Football Focus ahead of tonight's EPL match with Fulham.

Rooney also backs under-fire manager David Moyes, insisting that the players have to do better. - PA Sport.
