FFP forced Negredo out, says Pellegrini
Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that Manchester City had little choice but to let Alvaro Negredo go because of financial fair play restrictions.
Despite enjoying an impressive season since joining from Sevilla for £20 million ($41m), the Spaniard, who is out till October with a broken metatarsal, was allowed to leave for Valencia on transfer deadline day in a loan deal that will be made permanent next season.
While the move surprised City fans and left the club with just three strikers for the new season, manager Pellegrini has defended the move.
He cited the club's 21-man Champions League roster limit and the 29-year-old's desire to return home.
Restriction
The Chilean said: "The decision for Alvaro Negredo to go was for two very important reasons.
"The first was that we have the restriction for the number of the players we can use in the Champions League. We had one player more, (and) we could not use Alvaro, who was injured, so he was the player who was not going to be on the list.
"For him, it was very important because he wanted to go back to Spain, so I thought it was the best decision for the club.
"But it all starts from the restriction about the number of players. We have restrictions about the amount of players and the money we can spend."
