Hothead Spahic in trouble after allegedly headbutting steward
Bayer Leverkusen not only lost their German Cup match 5-3 on penalties to Bayern Munich, but they are likely to lose defender Emir Spahic for an extended period for headbutting a steward.
Spahic will be investigated by police for his involvement in an altercation with stewards on Wednesday, after a video footage of him fighting and aiming a headbutt at a steward along the side of the pitch has emerged.
Spahic had been hauled off in the 90th minute with an ankle injury, and an alleged ruckus broke out between Leverkusen fans and stewards at the BayArena.
The defender possibly got involved to help ease the tension, but landed himself in hot water with his moment of rage.
He is expected to issue an apology for his behaviour.
A Bayer spokesman said: “It is clear that there has been a physical dispute after the final whistle. We will review the incident and try to clarify now who was there and why they were there.”
