Swede success for men and women

Sweden took gold with a dominant performance in the men's 4x10km cross country relay at the Sochi Winter Olympics yesterday, completing a famous double for the Nordic nation after also winning the women's event.

Sweden defended their relay title from Vancouver and became the first nation since the Soviet Union in Sapporo in 1972 to win both the men's and women's Olympic relay titles.

With Russian President Vladimir Putin watching in the crowd, the host nation's team took silver while France claimed the bronze, despite first leg skier Jean-Marc Gaillard breaking a pole early on.

Earlier, Norway's Kjetil Jansrud sped to gold in the men's super-G alpine skiing and Czech Eva Samkova won the women's snowboarding cross event. - Wire Services.
