SEA Games: TNP takes on boxing's Ridhwan Ahmad
Cinderella Man, The Hurricane, The Fighter and, of course, the Rocky movies. I've always been a big fan of boxing on the silver screen, but started getting into the sport only two years ago.
That was when I interviewed Singapore's top boxer, Ridhwan Ahmad, and his coach and Olympian Syed Abdul Kadir, who is the 1974 Sportsman of the Year.
At this SEA Games, Ridhwan, with a bronze from the last two Games, is gunning to win Singapore's first boxing gold since 1985.
As the Games returns to Singapore for the first time in 22 years, The New Paper decided to do something special involving Ridhwan and our other home athletes.
The TNP team approached boxing - and eight other sports - to create video previews for our readers. Over the next week, TNP will roll out videos in which we interview the athletes and, in a few, spar with them.
I'm never known for my good ideas but, nevertheless, I decided to challenge Ridhwan to a fight.
