Singapore fired up for Botswana match

They may have missed out on the final of the Mission Foods Nations Cup for the first time in three years, but the Singapore netball team are all fired up for their bronze-medal match against Botswana today.

Captain Micky Lin and Co collected their second win in five matches when they defeated the Singapore Invitational team 44-32 at the OCBC Arena last night.

Head coach, Ruth Aitken, believes her world No. 15 team can finish the tournament on a high by beating No. 19 Botswana today to claim third place.

"I think we were pretty disappointed after the first two games and it has taken us a bit to pick up, but I think we're on the way up now," she said.

While yesterday's match against the Singapore Invitational team was inconsequential, Aitken used it as an opportunity to prepare for today's game.

She tried different combinations of players in the various positions for all four quarters of the match.

Aitken declined to reveal the combination she is planning for the Botswana clash, but she is looking forward to see how it plays out.

"I am excited, very much so," she said. "We've been working on our plan all week, and I want to see them finish in style."

Parveen Nair, who is playing in her first Nations Cup, wants to go out on a high.

"So far, it hasn't been a really good competition for us, but I feel that the team have been very positive," she said. "We'll be fighting for the third position, so I think there's still a chance for us if we still stay positive and work together as a team." - JESLEEN SOH
