What other sports hope for Ridhwan wants fists of gold

Ridhwan Ahmad is a man on a mission.

He wants to play his part in returning Singapore boxing to its glory days.

At the 1993 South-east Asia (SEA) Games, hosts Singapore collected eight medals - one silver and seven bronzes.

The sport went into a downward spiral after that, until Ridhwan (left) punched and jabbed his way to the men's lightweight bronze at the 2011 Games in Palembang.

He was distraught when he failed to reach the final last December in Myanmar - he collected his second bronze there - and the 26-year-old is determined to go the distance next year on home soil.

He said: "People's expectations will obviously be high, but honestly no one has higher expectations of me than myself.

"Whenever I get into the ring, I always remind myself of why I'm doing this.

"It won't be any different when I'm fighting in front of the Singapore crowd, my friends and my family."
