Composer Iskandar Ismail dies. Celebs, including Mr Brown, pay tribute to a Singapore talent

Many local celebrities were left saddened when news broke early on Saturday (Nov 1) morning that Iskandar Ismail, one of Singapore's most popular composers and music directors, had died of lung and brain cancer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Straits Times reported that the 58-year-old musician, who was first diagnosed with cancer in 2010, died at 3.10am in his condominium and leaves behind a wife aged 60, and two grown-up children.

Iskandar, whose music career started in the 1970s, has composed, arranged and been music director for many National Day Parades since the late 1980s, as well as major events such as Chingay, the Asian Youth Games and Youth Olympic Games, said the paper. 

He won the Singapore Cultural Medallion for music in 2008. 

Mr Brown took to Twitter to convey his condolences and the satirical blogger included a video from 2009, where he is seen interviewing Iskandar about the musical arrangements for the fireworks for the New Year's Countdown to 2010.

Bu​t it weren't just the famous names that took to Twitter their convey their condolences.

Iskandar made an impact on regular citizens as well. They, too, shared their shock and deepest sympathy on the social media platform.
