Movie Review: Gods Of Egypt (PG13)
Is it a romance? A revenge flick? A comedy? A coming-of-ager?
Director Alex Proyas got greedy and wanted a bit of everything, resulting in a cheesy sword-and-sandal flick that tries too hard to impress.
Gerard Butler plays Set, the power-hungry god of darkness, who snatches the throne from Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Horus teams up with mortal Bek (Brenton Thwaites) to destroy Set's source of power. In return, Horus must bring Bek's love, Zaya (Courtney Eaton), back from the dead.
Ambitious story aside, this actioner is too CGI-heavy.
Worse, the special effects are not up to par, and you can see the pixels in some scenes.
It reportedly cost US$140 million (S$196 million) to make, and this is what they come up with? What a waste of money.
