'Broke' 50 Cent bares cash, back in court

US rapper 50 Cent, who filed for bankruptcy last July, has to appear in court to explain why he posted an Instagram of himself surrounded with cash.

Born Curtis J. Jackson III, 50 Cent has posted several pictures on Instagram of himself playing with cash since last October, reported CNN Money.

In one picture, he is in bed surrounded by stacks of US$100 (S$140) bills, and there was easily US$50,000 in that picture alone.

The 40-year-old had filed for bankruptcy, claiming expensive lawsuits had dwindled his multimillion dollar fortune, reported the Washington Times.

US bankruptcy judge Ann M. Nevins said she was concerned that 50 Cent was being dishonest about his finances.

The judge told 50 Cent's attorney: "I'm concerned about allegations of nondisclosure or a lack of transparency in the case," CNN reported.

"There's a purpose of having a bankruptcy process be transparent, and part of that purpose is to inspire confidence in the process."

She ordered him to appear in court.

50 Cent's legal team released a statement late last week saying he would appear in court "to make sure that all questions have been addressed".

His attorney insisted 50 Cent "has been forthcoming and transparent with all creditors".
