Twitter uproar over mattress ad showing Malala being shot in face
Twitter users are up in arms over an advertisement that shows Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai being shot in the head.
Responses have ranged from “gross”, “unbelievable” to questions of “what were they thinking”.
The advert features the teen falling onto a mattress after being shot in the face. She then bounces off the mattress and gets a reward.
It was created for Kurl-on, an Indian mattress company by advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather’s Asia Pacific branch, reported The Telegraph.
But the Malala advert is just one of three adverts with the 'Bounce Back' motto. The other two feature the late Steve Jobs and Mahatma Gandhi.
Malala, now 16, was shot by a Taliban gunman in 2012 over her outspoken views on education for girls in her home region of northwest Pakistan. After undergoing extensive medical treatment, she now lives in Britain
PORTRAIT OF STRENGTH
Meanwhile, a painted portrait of Malala fetched $102,500 at an auction on Wednesday in New York.
The money will go towards assisting local non-government organisations working to educate girls and women in Nigeria.
