The Notebook is becoming a TV show

Get those tissues ready.

The Notebook, arguably one of the best romances of all time, is heading to the small screen.

The 2004 tearjerker, based on Nicholas Sparks' 1996 bestselling novel and the film that launched the careers of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, is currently being developed by US television network CW into a drama series, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Much like the movie, the reboot will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters, Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities and social mores of post-World War II in the late 1940s in North Carolina.

However the plot is unlikely to depict the couple in their older years. In the film, Allie was shown in her later years, stricken with Alzheimer’s disease.

“I don’t believe we’re going to see the older couple — what they become,” the CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills.

“But things change (in development). I’m thrilled Nick Sparks wanted to do it at The CW.”

The series is still in the early development stages, with Sparks serving as executive producer.
