Lulu The Movie delayed till next year
Fans of local actress Michelle Chong’s alter ego Lulu will have to wait a little longer before seeing her in action on the big screen.
Lulu, a KTV hostess from mainland China working in Singapore, is a popular character from Channel 5 comedy sketch show The Noose which Chong created.
It was announced last April that Lulu The Movie - to be directed by and starring Chong - will hit theatres in early 2015.
However, the 38-year-old clarified on Thursday that although filming is underway, it will only be ready early next year.
She told The New Paper: “As there are many local films being released this year due to SG50, I decided to push my movie to next year so that there won’t be a clash.”
She added: “I am also working on several projects so I am running short on time.”
Chong was speaking to local media at the press conference of local movie Our Sister Mambo, in which she plays the second of four children who quits her job as a lawyer to fulfill her dream of being a chef.
The romantic comedy, which also stars Moses Lim, Audrey Luo and Oon Shu An, was made to commemorate Cathay Organisation’s 80th anniversary and opens at Cathay cineplexes on July 15.
In the meantime, those needing their Lulu fix can catch her on the small screen in the upcoming eighth season of The Noose.
Chong is writing, directing, producing and editing some of the segments and keeps herself updated on current affairs by voraciously reading news stories daily.
“I have to be observant and know what is relevant,” she said,
“It’s the same with Lulu The Movie. It was chosen over my other (The Noose’s Sarong Party Girl) character Barbarella because there are so many foreign talents in Singapore now, and the interest in PRCs is higher.”
