Remembering Robin Williams

Tributes for comedian one year after his death

It has been a year since much-loved comedian Robin Williams died on Aug 11.

On Tuesday, tributes poured in on social media for the star.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, star of Buffy the Vampire, acted with Williams in TV sitcom The Crazy Ones last May and she shared an Instagram picture of the famous Boston bench featured in Good Will Hunting.

The caption was a quote by American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson: "'To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded'... You succeeded RW #RobinWilliams".

The Oscar-winning actor hanged himself at his home in northern California, leaving behind his widow Susan Schneider and three children.

The 63-year-old Williams was battling severe depression and suffering from the early stages of Parkinson's disease.

Known for his upbeat roles and cheerful demeanour, his death shocked the world, while highlighting the importance of mental health issues and the reality of depression.
