AirAsia Flight QZ8501: Bodies to be taken to Surabaya to be identified
The bodies of passengers of AirAsia flight QZ8501 found in waters near Pangkalan Bun will be taken to Surabaya, reported Detik.com.
Chief of Police Medical Center (Kapusdokes) Police Brigadier General Arthur Tampi said on Tuesday: "Even though it was close to Borneo, the bodies were evacuated to Surabaya."
He said Surabaya has the necessary equipment to store the bodies, an "adequate number of personnel" and is where majority of the victims' families are at.
These factors were taken into consideration in choosing to move the bodies to Surabaya, Detik.com reported him as saying.
This will allow families of the victims to assist in identification, he said.
