Man versus bus (and car)

A man charged into the middle of Serangoon Road, in front of an SBS Transit bus and started kicking the bus, demanding to be allowed on board on Saturday evening.

His antics stopped the bus, which had about 40 passengers, for some 20 minutes, before a passer-by coaxed him to the side of the road.

The New Paper understands that the man was drunk.

A video of the incident was posted online and has since garnered at least 2,800 shares on the SG Share Facebook page.

In the video, a man is seen banging on the windscreen of the bus which was in the second lane, demanding to be allowed on board, around 6pm.

He first punches and kicks the front of the bus and repeatedly points at the door, signalling for it to be opened.

He then walks to the door and continuously kicks it while raising his voice at the bus driver.

A passenger is heard jokingly calling him "Spider-Man" as the man attempts to jump to reach the windscreen wiper, which he later reaches and angrily breaks.

When he goes to the door, another passenger is heard saying to the driver: "Eh brother, brother don't open leh, I scared".

The driver laughs and says lightheartedly that the man can take the wiper if he really wants to.

One passenger is also heard saying: "Si bei (Hokkien for very) entertaining leh" and laughs are heard in the background.

A passer-by is then seen approaching the man, who reacts aggressively.

As the passer-by tries to coax him back to the roadside, the man hits the bonnet of a passing car, which then appears to run over his right foot.

The 51-year-old man was later arrested.

SBS Transit said the Service 65 bus on its way to Tampines had pulled out of a bus stop in front of a temple when the man rushed across Serangoon Road from the right.

The driver contacted the operations control centre, which then called the police for help.

Police said they received a call at 6.12pm requesting assistance near 555, Serangoon Road.

Police are investigating.
