Nasi lemak & National Day songs: All the fun from Singapore Day 2015 in Shanghai
Around 5,000 overseas Singaporeans turned up in Shanghai's Century Park on Saturday to celebrate Singapore Day 2015.
With Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and Ms Grace Fu, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, in attendance, the annual event took a moment from its usual festive tone to pay respects to the Republic's founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who died on Mar 23 at the age of 91 after battling severe pneumonia.
Actress Michelle Chong, who hosted the show with fellow artiste Chua En Lai, shared a snapshot from the minute of silence on Facebook:
Singaporeans travelled from as far away as Beijing and Suzhou for the event.
Beloved local dishes like roti prata, bak kut teh and nasi lemak were served up to give those who have been away from the island a little taste of home.
The National Day Parade team was also in Shanghai to collect well wishes for SG50.
There was a concert that saw celebrities like Jeanette Aw take to the stage, much to the delight of the audience.
DPM Teo and Minister Fu couldn't help but join in with big smiles on their faces.
Amid the fun and games, there was also an opportunity for National Education among the younger participants with booths about the late Mr Lee set up.
All in all, it looked as if it was a day well spent for those who turned up for the event.
First started in 2007, Singapore Day is organised by the Overseas Singaporean Unit every year in a major city with a sizeable Singaporean population to provide them with memories of home.
