He faces death penalty if convicted
Man accused of firing 3 shots in hospital charged with unlawful discharge of firearm
The man allegedly involved in the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) shooting was yesterday
charged with the unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Muhammad Iskandar Sa'at, 23, faces the death penalty if convicted.
He was taken to court at about 1.20pm in a police van with his hands and feet restrained.
Iskandar is accused of using a .38 calibre Taurus revolver and firing three shots, intending to cause physical injury to a policeman, Mr Mohammad Sadli Razali, 31.
The incident happened at about 7.05pm on Saturday at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Yishun.
Wearing a white polo shirt and khaki trousers, Iskandar looked around the public gallery as he was taken into court at about 2.30pm.
No plea was taken after prosecutors asked for more time for investigations because the offence was "fairly serious and fairly recent".
The judge agreed and the case will be heard again on June 29, along with another charge of theft of a motor vehicle.
Last Friday, Iskandar and another man, Muhammad Taufiq Jasmi, allegedly stole a white Mitsubishi lorry from the loading bay of Block 477, Sembawang Drive, between 2.15pm and 2.30pm.
Taufiq will appear before the court again this Friday.
FAMILY
In court yesterday, Iskandar was granted permission to speak to his sister-in-law. Three other family members, including his brother, were with her.
When approached afterwards, the teary woman declined to speak to the media.
Earlier yesterday, Second Minister for Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli said findings from an investigation into the incident would help to identify any problems.
He said on the sidelines of a HomeTeamNS event: "The findings from this investigation will help us diagnose what the problems are and what kind of correction we need to make for the future."
