Miss Universe Singapore 2016: Althea Lew
Althea enjoys West Coast Swing - a contemporary dance form she took up two years ago that incorporates the laid-back culture of the US West Coast - and practises it four to five times a week.
While other partner dances feature a format where one leads the dance and the other follows, she prefers how West Coast Swing gives her the freedom to express herself even when she is not the leader. She travels abroad to join dance competitions and helps to teach classes at Mosaic Dance studio, which she attends regularly.
Althea is also thankful for the encouraging, warm and supportive dance community here.
She said: "In any interest group, the people are just as important as how much the activity resonates with you."
Which influential living person would you like to meet?
(Facebook's chief operating officer) Sheryl Sandberg. I would like to ask her what her secret is to juggling a successful career and being a mum. When I become a mum, I hope to successfully balance my work and family commitments too.
What is your greatest asset?
When I'm passionate about something, I put my heart and soul into it.
What is one food you cannot resist and why?
I love all kinds of fries - truffle, cheese, beef chilli cheese, sweet potato, spam, thin or thick, soggy or crispy.
What is your most significant accomplishment so far?
Learning a new language to proficiency level, as it takes dedication and perseverance. I took up Korean in 2010 and studied very hard for three years in university. It's an achievement I often use to remind myself that if I put effort into something, I can achieve my goal.
Which travel destination has been most special to you?
I spent 10 days in Italy and met the most hospitable homestay hosts in various cities, but my luggage was also stolen. The history in that country is so rich that my inner nerd got super excited while walking through the ruins and listening to audio guides.
