A couple have been reunited with their dog – nine years after it ran away.

According to a Facebook post by Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD), Spikey, a 12 year-old Jack Russell terrier, turned up at a Yishun coffee shop last week.

A good Samaritan rescued the "lost and forlorn" canine and had its microchip scanned.

The scan showed that Spikey had a licence from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore which had been cancelled by its owners in 2008.

ASD tracked down the dog's original owners Mr and Mrs Singh, who revealed that Spikey had run away in 2006 after their gate had been accidentally left open.

While the Singhs were willing to let Spikey, who was found in good condition, return to whoever had cared for him after he went missing, the trio were reunited after the ASD received no claims for Spikey.
