SR Nathan in 'critical condition' after stroke
Former president S R Nathan suffered a stroke on Sunday morning (Jul 31).
In a short statement, the Prime Minister's Office said that the 92-year-old is in critical condition.
He is currently in Intensive Care Unit of Singapore General Hospital (SGH) the statement added.
President Tony Tan posted on his Facebook page that he and his wife were saddened to hear about former President's hospitalisation.
Serving two six-year terms from 1999 to 2011, Mr Nathan was Singapore's sixth and longest-serving president.
Before becoming president, he served Singapore in various roles including High Commissioner to Malaysia and Ambassador to the United States of America.
In 2013, he became the seventh person to be conferred the top National Day honour - the Order of Temasek (First Class) - in recognition of his service to the nation.
He suffered a stroke in April 2015, and was warded at SGH for almost three weeks before he was discharged.
