TNP reader witnesses burning vehicle on PIE
TNP reader in traffic jam calls hotline after spotting burning vehicle on PIE
He was in a car with his parents when they were caught in a jam near the Aljunied flyover on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) last Wednesday evening.
As they inched forward, he realised the cause of the congestion - a burning vehicle on the leftmost lane.
Once he saw the scene, Mr Mohamad Shaifulbahri, 29, knew he had to call The New Paper hotline.
The student development officer, who was on his way to his home in Tampines, said: "We saw a bit of smoke and then big flames coming from a pick-up lorry."
Immediately, Mr Mohamad called TNP. He said: "I called the hotline because it was peak hour and I thought it was good to know for the safety of others."
The long-time TNP reader, who has been reading the paper for more than 20 years, was also relieved to find out that no one was injured in the fire.
An item based on his tip-off was published on Sept 3.
For his call, he will receive a $100 Kentucky Fried Chicken voucher.
