Companies take part in SG50 Jubilee Big Walk for team building
Companies sign up for SG50 Jubilee Walk to bring staff together
These co-workers have gone on trips to Sentosa and even to Phuket, Thailand.
This time, 100 employees of Wah Loon Engineering (WLE) will be taking a stroll together through Singapore's historical landmarks at the SG50 Jubilee Big Walk.
It will be the first time WLE is taking part in a Big Walk.
A spokesman for WLE, an integrated one-stop provider of mechanical and electrical services, told TNP: "We decided to sign up as this is a meaningful SG50 event where we will be able to walk with the whole community."
Through the Jubilee Big Walk, WLE hopes to encourage a healthy lifestyle while bonding with staff, he said.
Mr Peter Terel Milroy Figurado, 48, a senior project manager at WLE jumped at the opportunity to join.
The first-time Big Walker is looking forward to taking part in the event with many of his colleagues.
Mr Figurado said: "I wanted to join this Big Walk event because of SG50 and also to show my support to Singapore."
Myanmar national Yan Myo Aung, 43, an assistant general manager at WLE, took part in the Big Walk in 2013. The Singapore permanent resident said there are many benefits to participating in this event.
"Firstly, the Big Walk is a great way to exercise and to remind us to lead a healthy lifestyle because we're so busy working day and night sometimes that we tend to forget to exercise.
"It's also a good way to bond and conduct team building with the other staff.
"I haven't had time to look at all of Singapore's iconic landmarks so this walk will allow me to look at all of them and it'll be like a history lesson for me," said Mr Yan.
ENTHUSIASTIC
An enthusiastic Mr Yan even encouraged 25 of his colleagues to sign up and hopes that his company will buy more tickets if more staff members want to join in.
Sats, which provides gateway services and food solutions, is another company that has signed up.
The firm has been actively taking part in mass events but took extra interest in this year's Big Walk due to its SG50 theme.
Ms Lilian Tan, Sats senior vice-president, told TNP: "We like the idea of giving our employees a chance to walk down a trail covering locations that commemorate the Singapore story."
Sats hopes that the Big Walk will not just be a bonding session for its staff, in which employees from various business units come together as one but also encourage them to be more active.
About 180 Sats employees have signed up so far.
Assistant manager Melissa Low Yi Mun, 30, is one of them.
Ms Low, who is taking part in the Big Walk for the first time, said: "I am super psyched as I love to take part in mass events like these.
"There is always this special feeling that comes with completing the challenge together as a group."
Groups or companies that want to sign up for the Jubilee Big Walk should note that groups with 50 people or more enjoy a registration fee at the lowest rate of only $20 per person.
