Final chance to sign up for SG50 Jubilee Big Walk 2015
Now that the skies have brightened, it's time to get up and about.
What better way to soak in some sun and fun than in the SG50 Jubilee Big Walk 2015 on Nov 29?
But you need to act fast. Online registration closes at 11.59pm tomorrow.
To register, go to the Jubilee Big Walk website (www.jubileebigwalk.sg).
Registration has already been extended for a week so this is your final chance to get your hands on the Big Walk goodie bag, worth $880, while enjoying the 5km Jubilee Trail.
GOLDEN SOUVENIR
This year's goodie bag is worth more than $880. Apart from spa and beauty vouchers, it includes a specially-commissioned medallion to commemorate the Jubilee Big Walk.
This limited-edition medallion, 50mm in diameter, has two designs on its faces.
The front of the medallion has iconic landmarks along the route, such as The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay and Parliament House.
The other side has the SG50 sign to remind walkers that they are part of one of the highlights of Singapore's SG50 celebrations.
The medallion was what attracted first-time Big Walk participant Noriah A. Majid, 55, a technical support officer.
"I'm excited about getting the medallion and adding it to my SG50 collection of items like the SG50 $50 note," she said.
Mr Tay Ming Sing, 53, a service manager at Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA, said: "It's wonderful that I can pass the SG50 medallion down to my family and keep it as a memento."
Barely made it
Better late than never is what drove Mr Kartik Aravind Raj Selvarajah, 31, to sign up for the Jubilee Big Walk last Saturday - six days before registration closes tomorrow.
The secondary school teacher had to be reminded by his sister after he kept putting it off despite having made up his mind to take part.
Mr Kartik, a first-time participant, said: "I didn't know when registration would end and decided to try my luck and see if the registration was still open online last Saturday. Luckily for me and my sister, (it was) and we immediately signed up."
Registration was extended by a week from Oct 28 to cater to participants such as Mr Kartik (below).
For years, Mr Kartik had always intended to join the Big Walk but could not because of health issues.
Now that he is fitter and lighter, his dream to join the Walk will finally come true.
Mr Kartik said: "I'm most excited about the carnival at the end of the Walk. But for me, being able to finish the whole Walk will be the greatest accomplishment."
Madam Esther Teo, 32, a senior quality assurance officer at F&N Interflavine, felt that being able to see iconic sites such as Gardens by the Bay was the biggest reason to be part of the Walk.
She also wants to use the Walk as a bonding session with her family while enjoying the many treats inside the goodie bag and the carnival at the end of the Walk.
"I suddenly remembered the Big Walk advertisement I saw and decided to sign up for it immediately last Saturday, together with my other family members.
"For my daughter, Eloise, this will be her first mass walking event at the age of one, so I'm really excited."
