Party like it's 2016
S'poreans celebrated around the island as we said goodbye to 2015
One of the event's participants, Mrs John Bloodworth, 63, said: "I came here with my husband and I think events like these encourage families to come out and bond."
The event's guest-of-honour, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, joined the party at about 11pm and raised his light stick and grooved to the music.
The event also saw participants set a new record for the largest collage of light sticks in the Singapore Book Of Records with more than 1,600 light sticks.
Some others picked attending an indoor slumber party over watching fireworks.
The countdown event, Sleepless Society: NYE '16, was held at the Suntec Singapore International Exhibition & Convention Centre.
The crowd danced to tunes by an acclaimed line-up that included Grammy-winning Dutch DJ-producer Afrojack and German-born DJ Miss Nine.
One of the partygoers, Miss Lam Inn Maw, said: "I came here to do the countdown because this concept is new and fun."
POLE DANCERS
Over at the Siloso Beach Party in Sentosa, a group of pole dancers entertained partygoers with their impressive moves.
More than 12,000 people turned up and danced to 12 hours of non-stop music at Singapore's only beach countdown party.
A fireworks display started at the stroke of midnight and a confetti shower rained down on the crowd.
The party was headlined by Dutch DJ Don Diablo among other local and international acts.
They included DJs Funky T, Ollie'des, Inquisitive, Eclipse, Electrokat, Sabrina, and last year's Sentosa DJ Spin-Off winner, DJ Caden.
