Veteran emcee to host SG50 Jubilee Big Walk 2015
This year's host Justin Misson may join in the walk but only to halfway mark
Wanting to do something different with his football team, host Justin Misson signed them up for the second TNP Big Walk back in 1992 and had a ball of a time.
"We saw it as a novelty and a way to keep fit. It was fun.
"Back then, the Big Walks weren't on such a large scale like they are now. We just saw it as a band of brothers hanging out to walk and chat," said Misson.
This year, he is back as the SG50 Jubilee Big Walk 2015's host. The walk is next month.
"When I first knew that I would be hosting at the Big Walk, my reaction was "Wah! Wah! Wah!".
"I'm looking forward to hosting it because it's the next big-scale event for me," he said.
While he has not planned out what he will showcase during the Jubilee Big Walk, Misson promises to deliver something that is a reflection of who he is.
"I like to host without a script and enjoy doing impromptu things. I'll just go with my 'feeling'," he said.
With more than 20 years of experience as an emcee, Misson also added to his portfolio by playing a warrant officer in Jack Neo's movie Ah Boys To Men 3: Frogmen, this year.
He said: "I'm eternally grateful to the director Jack Neo because I gained a lot of exposure through this movie."
Apart from the Jubilee Big Walk, Misson has been busy hosting corporate dinner and dance events as well as conferences.
The Singapore River, which is one of the landmarks along the walk, holds special significance to him.
"Being a 'pioneer' in Singapore, I have witnessed drastic changes in the country and saw its super quick growth," said Misson, 42.
"I remember having drinks at Boat Quay when I was a youth."
In line with the SG50 theme, Big Walkers can also catch a glimpse of characters from the past along the 5km route, such as samsui women and policemen clad in shorts, to relive some of their memories of early Singapore.
Misson said: "I'm super excited for it and I might walk the Jubilee Big Walk, maybe from the start point to the halfway mark."
