When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

But what could you possibly do when faced with air pollution like the haze? Make jewels?

It might sound crazy, but that's exactly what Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde intends to do with his invention, the smog-free tower.

On Sept 4, Mr Roosegaarde launched the Smog Free Project in Rotterdam, featuring the 7m tall tower.

The futuristic-looking white structure, which is said to be the biggest air purifier in the world, creates a bubble of clean air free of pollutants using patented ion technology capable of scrubbing 30,000 cubic metres of air per hour.

The carbon from the captured smog is used to make sparkling jewels dubbed Smog Free Cubes, which are each the by-product of cleaning 1,000 cubic metres of air.

According to Studio Roosegaarde, the tower runs on green energy and uses no more electricity than a water boiler.

Funded by a Kickstarter project, Mr Roosegaarde intends to bring the portable machine to several cities around the world, including Beijing, Paris and Los Angeles.

According to Gizmondo, Twitter users can also put forth their own city using the #SmogFreeMovement hashtag.

At least two people from Singapore and Malaysia have made an appeal for the Smog Free Movement to visit our shores.

So, if you're getting sick and tired of the haze, fellow Singaporeans, you know what to do.

By the way, the Twitter handle for Mr Roosegarde's studio is @SRoosegaarde. You're welcome.
