Which HK star turned down TVB's version of Korean drama hit My Love from the Stars?

Rumours have been swirling that Hong Kong's TVB network is planning to adapt hit Korean drama My Love from the Stars. 

Though the news has not been confirmed, it's being reported that Charmaine Sheh has already turned down the role of female lead Cheon Song Yi, originally played in the Korean version by Gianna Jun. 

The reason? She's afraid she'll become the target of angry fans. 

According to ihktv.com, an insider said: "Although Charmaine is fit to portray Cheon Song Yi, she is sure to garner criticism no matter how well she does, because the original series was such a big hit. She turned down the role to avoid audience disappointment.”

There may be more practical reasons for her rejection of the role, though.

Sheh, who returned to TVB last year after leaving in 2011 to pursue a career in China, is now on a two-year contract with the Hong Kong TV network. She is said to be only doing one drama a year, and has just completed filming for Line Walker, which also stars Michael Miu and Raymond Lam. 

Other choices

Now that she's rejected the role, netizens have been abuzz about who should tackle both lead roles, flighty fictional actress Cheon Song Yi and 400-year-old alien professor Do Min Joon.

Popular names include Fala Chen and Linda Chung for Cheon Song Yi, while most fans prefer Raymond Lam or Bosco Wong for the male lead, originally played by Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun.
