Facebook's super kaypoh new feature

Have you been stalking people on the sly?

Now Facebook allows you to be aggressively kaypoh*. 

The social media site quietly rolled out a new feature recently that allows you to ask other users for things that are confidential on their profile. 

Besides a user's e-mail, address or phone number, you can also ask for their relationship status, if it is currently private. 

When another user clicks the 'Ask' button, he or she is prompted to include a mandatory note with the reason why they're asking. This also applies when asking for other information like contact numbers or e-mail. 

Those who have tested the new feature have found out that submitting an answer creates a new event on your timeline and on the timeline of the person asking. 

But wait ...

Here's the tricky part: If you want to reply but don't feel like telling the truth, Facebook will helpfully change your relationship status to the fake one you just sent that creepy guy who won't stop asking. 

Tech columnist Alyssa Bereznak discovered this while testing the feature, and calls it "disconcerting". 

A Facebook spokesman told The Daily Dot there is no way to prevent the Ask button from appearing on your profile. There is also no 'Ignore' option, so the unanswered 'Ask' will remain there forever. 

Needless to say, reaction to the new feature has been mostly of the "eww, irritating" variety.
