Ryan Reynolds booed at Cannes

Uh oh. 

Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds was so upset that his new movie The Captive got booed at the Cannes Film Festival, he skipped the show's after-party. 

The movie, which tells the story of a young girl's mysterious kidnapping and the subsequent breakdown of her parents' marriage was called "ludicrous" by Hollywood trade magazine Variety. 

Us Weekly called the screening "disastrous", citing a source that said Reynolds, 37, "definitely seemed a little on edge ... wouldn't be surprised if he skipped out on his party because the film is getting terrible reviews".

No matter. Wifey Blake Lively, 26, was on hand to cheer him up.

Us Weekly's source said: (It) looked like Blake was trying to cheer him up a few times … she rubbed his arm like she was consoling him and kept whispering in his ear. At one point, Ryan smiled … and leaned into her for a kiss on the lips."

Gossip blogger Perez Hilton noted that "Cannes' critics are notorious for being meanies", pointing out that films now considered classics - Taxi Driver (1976), Crash (2004) - were not treated too kindly either when they premiered at the prestigious French film festival.
