New signing Safuwan delighted to play alongside Melbourne City's 'big stars'
Singapore national defender Safuwan Baharudin has described his loan move to Australian side Melbourne City as a "once-in-a-lifetime chance".
The 23-year-old signed a three-month deal that would see him play for the A-League side until the end of the season.
"When I first came, I had to be down for breakfast to mingle with the boys," said Safuwan during an interview with Melbourne City.
"It was nerve-wracking because of the big stars.
"Robert Koren, Damien Duff, Patrick (Kisnorbo), even Robbie (Rob Wielaert).
"Having to face them on a personal basis, you know, it's always a dream to be part of this beautiful team."
The defender spent 10 days with the club during a training stint in Abu Dhabi where he featured in two friendly matches for the club and impressed the team's coaching staff.
"It wasn't easy... it was tough for me to adapt.
"But it took only two or three days for me to click with the boys.
Life changing experience
"To sum up, I had a good 10 days, I played two games, and it was a life changing experience."
Safuwan hopes to win the hearts of Melbourne City fans with his adventurous style of play while fulfilling his duties in defence.
"It's only the first step of my career, it's going to be a long journey ahead but then again you have to work hard to achieve something big in your life."
