Zidane puts France in final
The Panenka penalty he attempted in the shoot-out had the name Zidane stamped all over it.
He is, after all, Luca Zidane, son of French football legend Zinedine Zidane.
Never mind that he keeps goal for France’s Under-17 team instead of harassing defenders like his father.
He was the star of France’s shoot-out win over Belgium in the semi-finals of the European Under-17 Championship in Bulgaria.
The match finished 1-1, and France needed someone to rise to the occasion in the tense finale.
Up stepped 17-year-old Luca, who saved three of Belgium’s efforts from the spot.
In the end, it didn’t matter that he missed his audacious penalty — it hit the crossbar.
His heroics in goal helped his side to a 2-1 shoot-out win, earning them a final against Germany on Friday (May 22).
