Movie Review: Let's Eat! (PG13)
Hong Kong actor Chapman To clearly has a love affair with Singapore and Malaysian cuisine.
Why else would he choose this film, about the fortunes of fictional Malaysian eatery Ah Yong Cafe, as his directorial debut?
In Let's Eat!, To plays head chef Dai Hung, who is at odds with his boss' daughter Rosemary (Aimee Chan), the new manager who has just returned from Europe. With the cafe's reputation on the line, they join a TV cooking contest to prove themselves.
With its slapstick humour, it resembles a local take on Hong Kong foodie film The God Of Cookery, sans the larger-than-life stunts.
The storyline is predictable, and the jokes sometimes fall flat, but you'll enjoy the sexy food shots and cameos by local actors such as Henry Thia and Mark Lee.
