Season of the fruit cake
From green tea kumquat to orange apricot, refreshing fruity flavours are ripe for the picking this year
Mooncake season is back, and this year, the selection is fruitier than ever.
It seems the trend of going lighter has continued from last year, with many choices so bright and light on the palate, it's as if you've just eaten a snack.
Here are some fruit-filled mooncakes to try.
FAIRMONT SINGAPORE
At Szechuan Court, the new mooncake is the Yuzu Passion Snowskin Mooncake ($68 for eight).
The yuzu is encased in a white chocolate praline, so it's a combination of sweet and sour.

TUNGLOK
TungLok has two new fruit flavours, while retaining a best-seller.
The new ones are Banana Milk with Salted Caramel and Orange Apricot with Chocolate. The returning favourite is Durian with Chestnuts.
These are all going at $54 for eight.
You can get them from any TungLok restaurant, such as TungLok Seafood, Lao Beijing and Shin Yeh Restaurant.
THE ST. REGIS SINGAPORE
Yan Ting is offering the perfect mooncake for those who don't like them sweet.
Its White Lotus Paste with Lemon Truffle Snowskin Mooncake ($73 for eight) is a break from the sweet flavours. The lemon provides a lovely balance - and is addictive.
To order, call 6506-6887.
HOLIDAY INN ATRIUM SINGAPORE
One of my favourite fruit-based mooncakes comes from Xin Cuisine. The Soursop and Chocolate Crunch is a delicious blend of refreshing and sweet.
It's back alongside another favourite - Peranakan Durian Snowskin Mooncake, with its unique blue pea flower casing.
Both mooncakes can be purchased at $52 for six.
Call 6731-7173 to order.
GOODWOOD PARK HOTEL
Goodwood Park Hotel has two fruits in one mooncake. Its Pineapple, Lemongrass and Dark Cherry Snowskin Mooncake ($33 for two) is also one of the prettiest mooncakes this season, with its watercolour-inspired skin.
To order, call 6730-1867.
PEONY JADE
Peony Jade's fruity contribution is a range called the 4 Little Heavenly Kings Premium Fruitti Mini Snowskin ($76 for eight).
Three of these are new: Japan Kyoho Grapes, Peach-Passionfruit-Chocolate with Champagne Mousse centre and Chestnut-Salted Caramel.
The Honey Mango-Philadelphia Cheese is the flavour that returned.
For enquiries, call 6659-4159.
GRAND HYATT SINGAPORE
There are five new flavours of mooncakes at Grand Hyatt Singapore.
They are Thousand Flower Blossom Honey Truffle, Strawberry Lime Margarita Truffle, Black Sesame Buddha's Hand Truffle, Maotai Dark Chocolate Truffle and Peanut Butter Sea Salt Truffle.
Of these, the Strawberry Lime Margarita Truffle is the most refreshing.
Get them in a box of eight from $66, depending on your choice.
Call 6887-5492 for information.
BAKERZIN
The new range of mooncakes at Bakerzin - the Mini Momo Collection - has a unique shell made with butter bean flour.
The flavours are fun too: Osmanthus Lotus, Purple Sweet Potato and Water Chestnut, Egg Custard and Green Tea Kumquat.
The collection goes for $56 for a box of eight.
You can head for any of their outlets (locations include Jurong Point, VivoCity and United Square) to buy.
