Movie Review: Pan (PG)
You wouldn't expect Joe Wright to do an action-adventure flick, let alone a CGI-heavy one in 3D.
But the Pride & Prejudice and Atonement director wants you to believe his Peter Pan origin story, which has Pan transformed from a WWII orphan to the symbol of Neverland.
Sadly, there's more falling than flying here.
Pan looks magical, with spectacular effects, but it's let down by the lack of an emotional core, which, Wright is known for.
How Peter (Levi Miller) was Hook's (Garrett Hedlund) best pal before they were enemies is inspiring.
However, Hedlund's performance is off-putting and Rooney Mara seems flat as warrior Tiger Lily. So it's up to Hugh Jackman as Peter's nemesis Blackbeard to dial up the fun, which he does with aplomb.
The real star is newcomer Miller, who displays all the qualities one would expect from a boy hero.
