Drone delivery - what else can drones send to us?
Water found on Mars. And now, SingPost has successfully completed a trial to use a drone to deliver mail.
Yes, folks. The future is here.
SingPost, in a joint development with Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), used an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to do a mail run from Lorong Halus, in Mainland Singapore, to Pulau Ubin.
Germany and Switzerland have also completed similar trials over the course of the year.
So, this sounds like the beginning of something beautiful - where drones can just about deliver anything within the same day.
Of course, this made me think about just how else drones can help.
Below are some of these ways that I hope will be made possible by drones in the future.
1. Lunch deliveries on days you have to eat at your desk

Every one has those days where you are just drowning in work - and you don't have time to have to leave the office for a nice, long lunch.
What's worse is when you are on a diet and the nearest chicken rice stall is the most convenient option for lunch at your desk.
Enter the all-new lunch-delivering drone.
Now imagine this drone collecting your favourite salad from your favourite over-priced salad bar and delivering lunch right to your desk.
That's right - you don't even have to lift your butt off the seat to meet the delivery man (or drone, in this case).
In time to come, hopefully the drone can pack the take-away in a heated container so that warm meals can be served too!
2. Online shopping

Amazon, the world's biggest online retailer, is already working on this.
Their goal? To come up with a future delivery system that is designed to safely deliver packagers to customers around the world (which could include Singapore) in 30 minutes or less using drones.
And I just can't wait.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that the service will be ready in about four to five years.
Imagine a world where you can shop online and get your items in an hour - all without leaving the house. (You can tell from this point and the point above that I'm not a big fan of... movement).
Right now, commercial drones can only carry packages under 2.28kg. But hopefully, as technology improves, grocery shopping and delivery via drone can soon be a reality.
Again, no pain is my gain.
3. A nice, cool cocktail for those days you don't want to be in the same space as pretentious hipsters

It's a Friday and you want to shake off the busy week with a good, inventive cocktail. But nope, you still have to wrestle for space with pretentious hipsters at that cool new bar you found first.
Solution? Cocktail-delivering drones (bonus if that cute bartender is included or I could live with just a polaroid of him mixing my drink too).
4. UberDrone

Technology moves so fast, so let's continue dreaming.
Uber, the popular car-sharing app - is already changing the landscape of the transport industry.
But they could take it one step further.
Uber could possibly look into transporting people via drones too. Imagine not having to fight for space in the trains or endure headache-inducing traffic jams.
5. Shipping (droning) irritating people out of my sight immediately

Just as how a drone could transport people to a destination, it could similarly transport someone out of it.
Many people may have been stuck in a conversation with someone just a little too cocky or simply someone who is talking too much - preventing you from going home (the only time I would voluntarily move).
So a drone to timely remove that person would be immensely helpful.
I wouldn't even mind having to wait a hundred years for this technology to be acceptable.
