Yeo Yann Yann loving motherhood

Like many working mothers, Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann suffered mummy guilt when she was away from her three-year-old daughter Vera for three months while filming The Laundryman in Taiwan a year ago.

The 38-year-old told TNP: "I got really homesick. I think I spent most of my pay flying my parents and daughter over to Taiwan to spend a week with me."

However, it seems that the little girl may have got used to the absences.

Yeo, who is based in Singapore, said jokingly: "I left her with my parents today before coming to work and she said bye to me so happily. That broke my heart."

Still, her filming experience was a fruitful one. She took language classes to hone her Mandarin and Hokkien accents and learnt martial arts to play a butt-kicking policewoman, Officer Yang.

She and co-star Sonia Sui, whom she affectionately calls "Tang Tang", were so into their fight scenes that director Lee Chung was concerned.

"Tang Tang is so sweet and gentle, but when we started fighting, we were like two crazy women.

"After the first take, (Lee) actually said, 'These two are not happy with each other, is it?'" she added with a laugh.

Yeo also mused that it is "amazing" that Sui looked so slender after giving birth.

"I guess it's due to perseverance and body type. I gained 30kg while I was pregnant and it took a while to regain my figure."

Although Yeo is relishing motherhood, she and her husband, Hong Kong director Ma Yuk Sing, are not considering another child yet.

"Maybe not so soon. I'm still living my movie dreams," she said.

"When I'm working, my mind is like a laser beam: I need to focus on one thing at a time."
