Home United's coach Philippe Aw dropped as head coach of first team
Home United's Philippe Aw has been dropped as head coach of the first team with effect from today.
The move, announced on the club's Facebook post, comes as a surprise with the Protectors sitting fourth in the nine-team Great Eastern Yeo's S.League.
Aw confirmed with The New Paper that he received the news yesterday and is considering his options, but declined further comment.
The Home players were not told of the move before the announcement was made.
In the reorganisation of the Home United technical team, Aw has been redesignated as the head of youth development and performance management, and will oversee the Centre of Excellence, Kids Academy and Scouting Programmes at the club.
Aidil Sharin will be the Home United first team coach for the rest of this season.
In the post, Home United wrote: "Philippe has performed admirably over the past two seasons as head coach of the S.League team.
"He brought the club to the RHB Singapore Cup final in 2015, coming extremely close to capturing the trophy in his first season as head coach of the S.League.
"In addition, Philippe implemented an attractive style of play and under his watch, young players such as R Aaravin, Shahrin Saberin, Syahiran Miswan and Amir Zalani blossomed.
"He has also gave debuts to many of our home-grown talent in the process. Other senior players such as Abdil Qaiyyim and Azhar Sairudin captured the attention of national selectors, as Philippe gave them the opportunity to fulfil their potential with Home United FC.
"HUFC believes that Philippe's appointment within the youth set-up will ensure that this crucial area of the club is led by an individual who is well-versed in youth development and has a good track record at the level, which can only augur well for the club.
"In addition, it will continue to build a sound foundation for the club in the future."
The club did not respond to TNP queries on why it decided to redesignate Aw if they felt he had done well.
They did write in their Facebook post: "We believe that the reorganisation of the technical set-up of HUFC will be for the betterment of the club, as it will ensure that both our youth development and senior set-ups are led by staff committed to deliver success for Home United at all fronts."
