Man jailed for threatening to send sex videos of ex-girlfriend to her friends
Break-ups can get ugly, but Malaysian Chong Jin Hoong, 24, took it up a notch.
The scorned man threatened to send pictures and videos of his ex-girlfriend having sex to her friends on social media.
For his threats, Chong was yesterday sentenced to three weeks' jail for criminal intimidation.
The District Court heard that Chong, a coffee boy at a foodcourt, got to know a 24-year-old Chinese national in January 2014.
She is not being named to protect her identity.
About five months later, they became intimate and Chong would use his phone camera to film their encounters.
His then-girlfriend was aware of what he was doing.
After the relationship ended in September last year, she told Chong to delete the pictures and videos from his phone.
On Sept 26, the pair argued while texting each other. Chong then sent her a screenshot of a gallery in his phone which showed nine thumbnails of her having sex.
THREAT
He threatened her in Mandarin, saying he would tag her on Facebook and WeChat.
About five minutes later, at about 11.15am, he sent her a picture of her performing oral sex on him.
Just after noon, he sent her a video of her stripping, with close-up footage of her breasts and private parts.
The victim replied in a message in Chinese which said: "Send it if you wish to, I don't know how am I going to face all sorts of judgemental gazes, don't know how to face people in the future, so cold, my heart is shivering.
"You can stop threatening me, do whatever you wish to, I will bear the consequences for what I have done."
Chong later sent friend requests to the victim's friends on Facebook but did not send them any videos or pictures.
When the victim deleted Chong from her Facebook and WeChat accounts, Chong was upset and asked why she had blocked him.
He sent a screenshot showing that three of her friends had accepted his Facebook friend request.
He followed this with a message in Chinese that every friend would receive the photos and videos.
Chong also sent her a video of her performing oral sex on him.
The victim made a police report on Sept 29 at 2.55am and has since returned to China.
In mitigation, Chong's lawyer said his client never made the videos public. This was a lover's spat gone wrong since he never extorted the victim for money or sex.
During sentencing, the judge noted that while the victim had written a letter saying that she has forgiven him, it cannot be interpreted to mean that she was not fearful during the time of the threats.
